ObjectivesTo translate the English version of Nurses' observation scale of cognitive abilities(NOSCA)into Chinese version and test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of NOSCA.The translation and modify NOSCA was applied to the patients in the geriatric ward of a three grade hospital,and the reliability and validity of the scale was tested and verified,so as to guide the clinical nursing work.Methods1.Use Brislin translation model,the method of double translation and back translation,to translate the NOSCA scale.2.A pre experiment was conducted.and the initial Chinese version of the scale was applied to 20 patients in the geriatric ward,suggestions were put forward in the use of the Chinese version of the scale,so that all the items in the scale could be accurately handled by users.Finally form the Chinese version of NOSCA.3.The NOSCA was used in the geriatric ward,and the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of NOSCA was tested in 201 patients.Results1.The Chinese version of NOSCA consisted of 39 items.include 8 dimensi ons:attention,attention,orientation,memory,thoughts,higher cognitive functions,lan guage,praxis.2.Reliability verification:(1)The Cronbach's ? coefficient was 0.924 for the total scale and the Cr onbach's ? coefficient of each factor ranged from 0.930,0.914,0.953,0.902,0.878,0.906,0.913,0.912,0.924.(2)The test-retest correlation coefficient for the scale was 0.985.3.Validity verification:(1)The construct validity :Eight factors were extracted by factor analysis and cumulated variance was 76.518%.(2)The content validity index was 0.954.(3)The criterion-related validity was 0.614 measered by comparing with MMSE.ConclusionsThe Chinese version of NOSCA is reliable and valid for nurses' observation the cognitive ability,and benefits the clinical application.
