Clinical Study On The Treatment Of External Humeral Epicondylitis With Taiyi Miraculous Moxa Roll Combined With Tuina

ObjectiveThis study was to observe the clinical curative effect on external humeral epicondylitis treated by Taiyi miraculous moxa roll which was combined with tuina.Compared with the simple use of tuina therapy to treat external humeral epicondylitis as a control group,this study took visual analogue score(VAS),handgrip strength score and Mayo elbow function score as the observation indexes,to explore the efficacy and differences between two groups,discuss the advantages of Taiyi miraculous moxa roll and provide more clinical evidences of using this moxibustion therapy.MethodsDesigned as a randomized control test,60 patients with external humeral epicondylitis were randomly divided into treatment group and control group,with 30 cases in each group.The control group was treated with tuina alone,while the treatment group was treated by both tuina and Taiyi miraculous moxa roll.Both two groups were performed 3 times a week,every other day at a time,2 weeks for a course,2 courses of a treatment.The VAS,handgrip strength score and Mayo elbow function score were observed not only before and after treatment but also after follow-up in 3 months.And the curative effect would be evaluated after that.SPSS 22.0 statistical software was used for data processing,and the clinical efficacy of the treatment group and control group was compared according to the statistical results.Finally,the analysis,discussion and summary were conducted.Results1.Comparison of Baseline data: there was no statistically significant difference(P>0.05)between the treatment group and the control group in terms of gender,age,disease course,VAS,handgrip strength score,and Mayo elbowfunction score before the treatment.2.Comparison of VAS: after treatment and after 3 months of following-up,the visual analogue scores of both groups were lower than those before treatment,and the differences between two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).The differences of VAS before and after treatment,before and after 3 months of following-up,were both significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group,which was statistically significant(P<0.05).It showed that both groups of treatment could relieve pain of patients,but the treatment group was greater and had better short-term and long-term effects.3.Comparison of handgrip strength score: after treatment and after 3months of following-up,the handgrip strength scores of both groups were higher than those before treatment,which were statistically significant(P<0.05).The differences of handgrip strength score before and after treatment,before and after 3 months of following-up,had no statistically significant(P>0.05).It showed that both groups of treatment could improve handgrip strength.And the short-term and long-term effects of the treatment works,there was no significant difference in the degree of grip strength.4.Comparison of Mayo elbow function score: after the treatment of both groups and after 3 months of following-up,the Mayo elbow function scores were higher than that of the situation before treatment,and the difference in the group was statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference(P>0.05)between two groups before and after treatment.The difference for before the treatment and after 3 months of following-up showed that there was significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group,and the differences between two groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).It showed that both groups of treatment could improve the elbow function of patients.In short term,those two groups had the same effect,but the treatment group was better in long term.5.Comparison of clinical efficacy: after treatment,the total effective rate of clinical efficacy reached 93.3% in treatment group,and 90.0% in control group,which had no significant difference(P>0.05).In treatment group,the total effective rate of clinical efficacy reached 90.0% after 3months of following-up,and 76.7% in control group,which was statistically significant(P<0.05).It showed that both groups of treatment had goodshort-term clinical efficacy,and the treatment group had better long-term efficacy.ConclusionThe study found that both treatment group and control group had good short-term clinical efficacy.But the long-term efficacy and overall effect of the treatment group were superior to that of the control group.Taiyi miraculous moxa roll has more advantages in alleviating pain,improving elbow function and prolonging duration of curative effect,while the effect of tuina on improving handgrip strength was significant.Both have their own characteristics,the effect of their combination to treat external humeral epicondylitis is more comprehensive,which is worth popularizing in clinical and further in-depth study.
