ObjectiveThis research is based on a randomised trial comparing Yishentiaodu(strengthen kidney, regulate Du Mai)acupuncture method and regular acupuncture treatment for patients with attention deficit hyperkinetic disorder between the ages of 6-17 years. The clinical efficacy of each treatment method was evaluated and compared.Methods60 cases were randomly selected between September 2016 to March 2017,with30 patients allocated to the Yishentiaodu acupuncture group and 30 patients allocated to the regular acupuncture group. The treatment took place in a north shore clinic in Sydney,Australia. The patients received treatment 3 times a week, for a total of 2 x 12 times for the whole course of study.Bai Hui,Si Shen Cong,Feng Chi,Shen Duo,Ming Men,Xuan Zhong,Tai Xi,Shen Men,He Gu and Tai Chong were used in Yishentiaodu acupuncture group.Bai Hui,Feng Chi,Shen Men,Tai Xi and Tai Chong were used in the regular acupuncture treatment. The therapeutic effects were observed before and after the treatments. The scales used to measure the clinical effects of the trial were Conner's scale,SNAP-IV scale and the CRT test.Resultsthe gender, age, course of disease,TCM syndrome distribution and the scores of the Conner's scale,SNAP-IV scale and CRT test in both groups were not significantly different(P>0.05)shown by the statistical analysis and could be included in the research. After treatment with the Yishentiaodu acupuncture group, there were 9 patients with clinical cured effect,9 patients with a remarkable effect,8 patients with effect and 4 patients with anineffective effect. With the Yishentiaodu treatment group,it showed an 86.67%effective rate. This was compared with the acupuncture group, with 3 patients having a clinical cure,10 patients with a remarkable effect,7 patients with an effect and 10 patients who were ineffective. This showed an overall effective rate of 66.67% for the acupuncture group after treatment. With the rank sum test,z=-2.03 and P=0.042,the difference between the groups was statistically significant and the P score was <0.05.From this overall result, the Yishentiaodu acupuncture treatment group was more clinically effective compared to the acupuncture group. In the Yishentiaodu acupuncture group, the t test of self-comparison for the Conner's scale,SNAP-IV scale and CRT test was used to compare the results before and after treatment for the patients with attention deficit hyperkinetic. The results were statistically significant(P<0.01)which showed that after being treated with the Yishentiaodu acupuncture treatment, the clinical symptoms and level of intelligence for the patients were improved compared to before the treatment started. With the t test of self-comparison for the Conner's scale,SNAP-IV scale and CRT test before and after treatment in the regular acupuncture group, the results were statistically significant(P<0.01).This showed that there was a difference in the results before and after treatment, presenting an improvement in the clinical symptoms and level of intelligence for the ADHD patients. The t test was also used to compare the scores of the Conner's scale,SNAP-IV scale and CRT test in both the Yishentiaodu acupuncture group and the regular acupuncture group. The results were statistically significant(P<0.01)showing that the overall improvement of the clinical symptoms and intelligence for the patients were better with the Yishentiaodu acupuncture treatment group compared to the regular acupuncture group.ConclusionAfter the whole course of treatment either with Yishentiaodu acupuncture method or regular acupuncture treatment, the clinical symptoms and results of the level of intelligence test for the attention deficit hyperkinetic disorder patients had improved. The research results showed that the clinical effects of treatment with the Yishentiaodu acupuncture treatment group had more significance and better overall results compared to the regularacupuncture group.
