ObjectiveTo evaluate the relationship between the level of uric acid(UA)and cognitive impairment in middle-elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).MethodsOne hundred and fifty T2 DM patients were recruited, according to Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA),all subjects were divided into two groups: type 2 diabetic patients with mild cognitive impairment(T2DM-MCI group,78cases)and type 2 diabetic patients with normal cognitive function(T2DM-NCF group,72cases).Made comparisons of age, education, gender, course of diabetes mellitus, the history of hypertension,hemoglobinA1c(HbA1c),triglyceride(TG),low density lipoprotein cholestero(LDL-C),total cholesterol(TC),high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C),uric acid(UA)between two groups, conducted correlation analysis, binary logistic regression analysis bettween the score of MoCA and those indexes that have statistically significant differences.ResultsThere were statistically significant differences in age, education, course of diabetes, serum UA level(P <0.05).No statistically significant differences were found in the other indicators.Correlation analysis indicated that MoCA scores were positively correlated with education,UA level and were negatively correlated with age, course of diabetes(P < 0.05).Binary logistic regression analysis showed that, after adjusting for age, course of diabetes, education, uric acid was the protective factor for MoCA scores(P < 0.05).ConclusionUric acid may be the protective factor for the cognitive function of patients with T2 DM.
