Background The primary lung cancer is one of the main tumor at present population of developed countries.Smoking is the most common cause of lung cancer.According to the national cancer research center and the U.S.environmental protection agency estimates that about 80%of lung cancer is associated with tobacco. In America, for example,in 2003 the number of the occurrence of lung cancer in the United States is about 171,900 cases, and about 157,000 cases died of lung cancer.China is the world’s largest tobacco producer and consumer, more than 60%of male smokers, accounts for about 1/3 of the global number of smokers. In the past 20 years, there is an upward trend in the incidence of lung cancer in our country.Other factors that can lead to lung cancer include occupational factors, ionizing radiation, atmospheric pollution, biological factors, etc.Lung cancer is currently one of the highest fatality rate of malignant tumors. Most of the patients with lung cancer in clinical middle-late stage, when treatment is no operation time, chemotherapy is the main treatment. There are many kinds of interactions between chemotherapy drugs and tumor tissues.Even the same chemotherapy drugs used in the patients with the same pathological type and clinical stage, often have different curative effect. This suggests that there is close relationship between the gene expression in tumor tissues and the chemotherapy curative effect. In order to improve the sensitivity of chemotherapy, prolonging survival period,we should according the gene expression in tumor tissue to choose the most suitable chemotherapy drugs for patients. Objective To detect the relationship between the expressions of stathmin andβⅢ-tubulin and multidrug resistance in patients with non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).To investigate the expression and the curative effect of chemotherapy with paclitaxel and the prognosis of patients. Methods The expressions of stathmin and βⅢ-tubulin was detected by immunohistochemical method.Analysis on application of chemotherapy with paclitaxel in 63 patients of the curative effect and prognosis. Results The positive rates of stathmin and βⅢ-tubulin were 52.38%and 38.09%.The positive rate of stathmin has significant difference in smokers, clinical IV state patients, poorly differentiated group and lymphatic metastasis group(P<0.05).The positive rate of βⅢ-tubulin has significant difference in poorly differentiated group,Ⅲ-Ⅳ state groups and lymphatic metastasis group(P<0.05).In 63 cases of application of paclitaxel chemotherapy, the groups of positive expressions of stathmin andβⅢ-tubulin had lower survival rate than both negative expressions(P<0.05).Condusions Stathmin and βⅢ-tubulin are highly expressed in NSCLC tissues. The expression of stathmin in smokers, poorly differentiated carcinoma,Ⅳ stage tumors and lymphnode metastasis have significantly increased in tumor tissue. It prompts the expression of stathmin may be related to the development of non-small cell lung cancer. The expression of βⅢ-tubulin in poorly differentiated carcinoma,Ⅲ-Ⅳ stage tumors and lymphnode metastasis of tumor tissues increased significantly. It prompts the expression of βⅢ-tubulin may have certain relevance with the development of non-small cell lung cancer. The mortality of positive expressed group is higher than the negative expression of stathmin and βⅢ-tubulin.The group with positive expressions of stathmin and βⅢ-tubulin is more likely to produce multidrug resistance than negative group. It suggests that the tumor is malignant taxol-unsensitive and the patients have poor prognosis. It prompts that the detection of stathmin and βⅢ-tubulin in judging the prognosis of patients with non-small cell lung cancer and to guide clinical treatment has important significance.
