The Therapeutic Effect Of Traditional Chinese Medicine In Treating Erectile Dysfunction:a Systematic Review

Object:In order to fully understand the status of research on traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)treatment of erectile dysfunction(ED).Make a system review for the therapeutic effect of the safety and efficacy of TCM in the treatment of ED so that clinical treating decision can be made based on objective.Method:According to evidence-based medicine(EBM)approach,full search from January of 2000 to December of 2017 all completed,has been published in the TCM in treating premature ejaculation.All the articles included were evaluated by Jadad scale and Risk of bias.Make a system review and Meta-analysis.Evaluation indications include the changes of index questionnaire of erectile function(IIEF),erection quality scale(EQS),clinical efficiency,TCM syndrome integrals(including pulse and Symptoms),the changes of serum sex hormone and lipid levels.Use RevMan5.2: According to the situation to design fixed model or random model.The odds ratio(OR)were used to evaluate the dichotomous data and the weighed mean difference(WMD),standard mean difference(SMD)were used to evaluate the continuous data.Draw funnel plots to determine publication bias.Result:20 trials with 1688 cases were included till December of 2017.The system review showed that TCM have a better result in treating ED compared with western medicine,especially in improving clinical efficiency[OR=2.97,95%CI(1.58,5.57),P=0.0007 ],increase TCM syndrome integrals [ MD=-3.30,95%CI(-5.61,-1.16),P=0.003],serum sex hormone[SMD=1.50,95%CI(1.27,1.73),P<0.00001]and IIEF-5 of follow-up period[MD=1.98,95%CI(1.19,2.77),P<0.00001] meanwhile has a lower incidence rate of adverse reactions.However,there is still exist such as publication bias and other related factors.Conclusion:Meta analysis results showed that TCM in treating ED compared to western medicine has better clinical effect and less adverse reactions or side effects.Meanwhile,quality research results show that,in clinical research of TCM in the treatment of ED,there is still have bias to affect the results,which make this systematic review in terms of clinical value slightly lower.
