Objective Divide the nasal polyps into two types:the eosinophilic nasal polyps and the non-eosinophilic nasal polyps, according to the histopathological features.Discuss the effect of vitamin D and interleukin 17?IL-17?on the nasal polyps,by mensurating and comparing the level of serum vitamin D and IL-17 expression. Then explore the correlation between vitamin D and IL-17.Methods Choose the clinical data from inpatients aged 18 years and above in Department of Otolaryngology of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University from May 2017 to October 2017.Draw patient's blood before operation, and test the level of serum 25?OH?D3 in chemiluminescence.Group A is the eosinophilic nasal polyps group, which is made up of 20 patients with the pathologic diagnosis of nasal polyps and mainly eosinophils infiltration.Group B is the non-eosinophilic nasal polyps group, made up of20 patients with nasal polyps of little eosinophils infiltration.Group C includes 20patients without nasal polyps. The polyps of Group A and Group B are stained by immunohistochemical technique,so are the inferior turbinates or uncinate processes of Group C.Then measure the optical density and calculate the mean optical density to quantify the IL-17 expression.Statistically analyze the level of serum vitamin D and IL-17 expression, and explore the correlation between them. The level of significance is considered to be P<0.05.Results 1.The level of serum vitamin D has significant differences among three groups by one-way analysis of variance?ANOVA?.Perform pairwise comparisons between groups by least significant difference?LSD?t test. The level of serum vitamin D in Group A?26.67±4.22 ng/ml?is significantly different from that in Group B?30.53±3.41 ng/ml?and Group C?29.30±4.68 ng/ml?.But Group B has no statistical difference with Group C.2.The mean optical density?MOD?of IL-17 has significant differences among three groups by one-way ANOVA.Perform pairwise comparisons between groups by LSD-t test. The MOD of IL-17 in Group C(53.61±28.04×10-4OD/px2)is significantly different from that in Group A(83.73±40.96×10-4OD/px2)and Group B(79.32±31.07×10-4OD/px2).But Group A has no statistical difference with Group B.3.The level of serum vitamin D and IL-17 expression in tissue are negatively correlated. Conclusions 1.The patients with eosinophilic nasal polyps have a significant higher level of serum vitamin D than those with non-eosinophilic nasal polyps or those without nasal polyps. The lack of vitamin D may be a high risk factor of eosinophilic nasal polyps.2.IL-17 in nasal polyps has a significant higher expression than that in normal tissues.IL-17 may play an important role in the development of nasal polyps,no matter eosinophilic type or non-eosinophilic type.3.The level of serum vitamin D and IL-17 expression in tissue have moderate negative correlation.Vitamin D may have the effect of restraining IL-17 expression.Vitamin D supplementation may be one of the effective methods of preventing and inhibiting tissue inflammatory response.
