Objective:The aim of this study was to translate English version of the questionnaire evaluating the disability of upper Extremities in daily activities among patients undergoing maintenance hemo-dialysis(QDUE-HD)and test its reliability and validity of QDUE-HD.Method:1.By reviewing the literatures,we screened out a functional assessment questionnaire, which was developed by Toshiki Kutsuna in 2011.This questionnaire was completed through clinical trials and investigation of upper extremity ADL disorders in hemodialysis patients.2.After translation, back translation,2 rounds of Delphi expert advice and pre-investigation,the initial questionnaire was formed.3.Two hundred and eleven patients underging hemodialysis from 4 hospitals located in Suzhou,Wuxi,Shanghai and Zhejiang were investigatd using the initial questionnaire. The data of investigation were entered into the SPSS 18.0 statistical software for item analysis and validity examination by analyzing the correlation between each factor, items and each factor, each factor and total questionnaire. The reliability analysis included homogeneity reliability,split-half reliability and test-retest reliability.Result:1.After translation and back translationsemantic analysis, expert consultation and pre-experiment results, the initial Chinese version of QDUE-HD had 17 items.2.The results of item analysis and factor analysis: the 7 items were excluded from initial Chinese version of QDUE-HD throught item analysis and exploratory factor analysis. The questionnaire includes a total of 10 items which contained 2 factors, namely, factor 1:light physical activities, factor 2: holding activities. The final questionnaire, named the Chinese version of the disability of upper extremities in of daily activities among patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis, was the Chinese version of QDUE-HD.3.The reliability of Chinese version of QDUE-HD was examined from three aspects: the Cronbach's ? coefficients of whole scale, factor 1 and factor 2 were 0.906,0.870 and 0.904,respectively;the half-fold coefficient were 0.929,0.883 and 0.910,respectively;the test-retest reliability coefficient were 0.983,0.991 and 0.932,respectively.4.The validity of Chinese version of QDUE-HD included:(1)Surface validity: based on literature review, enough experts knowledge and deeply translation, the surface validity was qualified.(2)the Content Validity Index(CVI)of whole scale is 0.850.In addition, the CVI values of each item were from 0.5 and 1.0.(3)Construct validity: 2common factors were extracted by exploratory factor analysis; The rate of cumulative contribution was 69.473%,which meets the requirements of more than 40%;The KMO value was 0.930;The correlation coefficients between each item and whole scale ranged from 0.615 to 0.911;each factor and total scale ranged from 0.817 to 0.974.Conclusion:The reliability and validity of QDUE-HD(Chinese version)were reliable and effective. The two dimensions could comprehensively assess the function of upper extremity for patients with the maintenance hemodialysis in China. This questionnaire was simple and convenient to use and can be widely used in clinic.
