Objective: To investigate chemotherapy and dietary compliance and to analyze the affecting factors in patients with gout hospitalized in 2015 at the University Hospital of Hubei University for Nationalities. Methods: A questionnaire was designed to take information from patients with gout by telephone and online follow-up visit to patients with gout discharged in 2015 from University Hospital of Hubei University for Nationalities. The 1977 American College of Rheumatology classification criteria for gout was used in this investigation. The chemotherapy and dietary compliance, and understanding of gout in these patients were assessed. The factors affecting medication and dietary compliance were analyzed by univariate and multivariate regression. Results: An effective phone and web-based follow-up of 140 gouty patients discharged from the University Hospital of Hubei University for Nationalities in 2015 was enrolled in this study.Among them,137 were male and 3 female, with age from18 years to 81 years old(48±11 years).According to the treat-to-target level of uric acid,32.1% patients reach the efficacy point.Consistently only 32.9% patients followed chemotherapy of decreasing uric acid, while 45% with good dietary compliance, both good only 20%.Multivariate regression analysis found that medication and dietary compliance affecting factors included income status, habitat, joint attacks, and time spent to visit doctors. The main reason why patients stop chemotherapy was to worry about side effects.Patients with moderate and high gout cognition performed better in medication and dietary compliance. Conclusion: Only 32.9% patients with gout discharged in our hospital reached the target level of blood uric acid which mainly resulted from low compliance of both medication and diet. These results suggest the necessity of education for patients with gout to improve patients' knowledge of the disease and to increase both the compliance of medication and diet.
