Background and Objective Migraine is the most common primary headache disorder with various predisposing factors and affects a large number of people. It is susceptible to a variety of neuropsychiatric disorders and sleep disorders and seriously affects the quality of life.In recent years, there have been accumulating researches on RLS,which may be an interaction of comorbidity of migraine.RLS is a sensorimotor dyskinetic disorder that occurs frequently during nighttime and severely affects the quality of sleep. It can cause a series of sleep-related complications that can trigger migraine attacks or exacerbate symptoms and cause various neuropsychiatric disease such as anxiety and depression. In recent years, many studies have explored the impact of anxiety, depression and sleep disorders on the incidence of RLS in migraine patients with regard to the interaction between mood changes and sleep disorders in migraine sufferers. However, there are few studies on the impact of RLS on anxiety, depression and sleep disorders in migraineurs. This article aims to investigate the incidence of migraine in patients with RLS and its impact on mood and sleep.Research subjects and Methods Two hundred adult migraineurs(120 cases of episodic migraine and 80 cases of chronic migraine)were selected as the migraine group and one hunderd healthy volunteers with gender, age, education and marriage matched were selected as the control group. The incidences and severity of RLS,Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI),Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA)and Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)scores were assessed to compared among the three groups. The migraine group was then subdivided into migraine groups with and without RLS to compare the difference with each other.Further investigation was designed to explore the impact of RLS on the incidence and severity of mood and sleep disorders in migraine sufferers.One-way ANOVA was used to compare the measurement data among multiple groups, and the chi-square test was used to count data.Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were used to explor the relationships.P <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results The prevalence of RLS and IRLS scores in chronic migraine group were significantly higher than those in control group(P <0.05).While the prevalence of RLS and IRLS scores in episodic migraine group were higher than those in control group, but the differences were not statistically significant.Although the scores of HAMA,HAMD and PSQI were higher in the two migraine groups than those in the control group, there was no significant difference between the occasional migraine group and the control group. In the migraine group, patients with migraine who suffered from RLS were more likely to have higher age, longer duration, poor quality of sleep, higher scores of anxiety and depression than those with simple migraines(all P<0.05).The results of multivariate regression analysis and correlation analysis showed that headache frequency and RLS were the important factors of depression, anxiety and sleep disorders. In addition, the HAMD scores,HAMA scores, and PSQI scores of migraine patients were positively correlated with the severity of RLS(P < 0.05).Conclusion Patients with chronic migraine have a higher risk of developing RLS and symptoms of RLS are worse.RLS severely affects the incidence of anxiety, depression and sleep disorders in migraineurs, and its severity is positively related to the degree of anxiety, depression, and sleep disturbance.
