Study Of Chinese Version Of The Tool For Evaluating The Ways Nurses Assess Pain In Older People

ObjectiveTo translate the English version of The Tool for Evaluating the ways Nurses Assess Pain in older people(TENAP)into Chinese,and to test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of TENAP.It can be used to evaluate the level of knowledge about the pain assessment of elderly patients and rovides effective quantitative tools for related research.MethodsFirstly,I communicated with foreign scholars of the original scale by email,and obtained the use authorization of the scale,and introduced the TENAP scale.The TENAP was translated and adapted according to Chinese culture following the translation and back-retranslation procedure.Finally,through various revisions,the Chinese version of the TENAP scale was obtained.Adopt the method of convenience sampling,selecting 486 nurses who meets the criteria for inclusion from 2 level of first-class hospital of Zhengzhou city for investigation,among them 20 nurses for retest.Finally,the Content Validity Index(CVI)was used to measure the Content Validity of the TENAP scale.Exploratory factor analysis was used to test the structure validity of the scale,Cronbach 'a coefficient and retest reliability were used to test the internal consistency and stability of the scale.ResultsThrough the Chinese and cultural adjustment of the scale,the Chinese TENAP scale consisted of cognitive section with 12 items and behavioral section with 6 items.The correlation coefficient between each item and the total score of the scale was 0.279 ~ 0.767,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.01).The content validity index of items ranged from 0.8 to 1.0,and the average index was 0.926 for the total.Three factors were extracted of the cognitive section by exploratory factor analysis,which contributed 47.035% of the total variance,the correlations of the scores between each item and the total scale ranged from 0.778 to 0.800.The Cronbach's ? coefficient was 0.756,the test-retest reliability was 0.762.One factor was extracted of the behavioral section,which contributed 52.097% of the part.The Cronbach's ? coefficient was 0.803,the test-retest reliability was 0.815.ConclusionThe structure of the TENAP scale is proved reasonable by the content validity and structural validity test,it Can reflect nurses' knowledge of pain assessment in elderly patients,the results of Cronbach's coefficient and retest reliability prove that the scale has good internal consistency and stability,and it can be used to evaluate the status of nurse's Pain assessment for the elderly in our country.
