Objective The draft of Zhejiang Provincial Standard for Diagnosing and Treating Tinnitus with Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)had divided the disease into six TCM patterns:external pathogenic factors attacking(EPFA),rebellious liver fire(RLF),phlegm fire stagnation(PFS),stagnation of qi leads to stasis of blood(SQSB),kidney essence deficient(KED)and weakness of spleen and stomach(WSS).This study tried to put the Standard into clinical practice so as to provide helpful data for further revision.Method Patients with chief complaint of tinnitus were enrolled in the study from July 2011 to Desember 2012.They were diagnosed and treated according to the Standard. The results were analysed statistically. Results There were totally 105 cases enrolled in the study during the period, but only 60 cases(88 ears)finished the whole course of treatment.Among the 88 ears,9 ears(10.23%)of SQSB,16 ears(18.18%)of RLF,14 ears(15.91%)of PFS,29 ears(32.95%)of WSS and 20 ears(22.73%)of KED.There were no ears of EPFA.The total effective rate was 42.1%,but the cure rate(2.3%)and the apparent effective rate(8.0%)were relatively low.The effective rate was 22.2%in SQSB,43.8%in RLF,42.9%in PFS,31.0%in WSS,65.0%in KED.There was no significant difference among different TCM patterns in effective rate. Conclusions The division of tinnitus TCM patterns by the draft of the Standard is basically reasonable. There is some curative effect by discriminating treatment according to the draft of the Standard, but further explorations are needed to improve the effect. There is significant correlation between the degree of tinnitus and efficiency. There is statistical difference in efficiency between no hearing-loss group and hearing-loss group. There is nosignificant difference in efficiency among different ages, different etiologies and different TCM patterns.
