Energy is an important guarantee for national economic growth. With the continuous growth of a country's national economy, its demand for energy will also increase. At present, the relationship between energy supply and demand is more intense. The economic growth of the countries along the "one belt and one road" led by China is more and more obvious by the role of energy shortage.Improving energy efficiency and reducing energy consumption intensity are the inevitable way for these countries to achieve sustainable development. This article first analyzes the current situation of foreign direct investment and energy consumption intensity in the countries along the belt and road, and draws a conclusion that from 2000 to 2017,the scale of absorption of foreign capital by the countries along the belt and road continues to expand.Nowadays, compared with the developed countries in the world, the energy consumption intensity of the countries along the belt and road is still relatively high.In the empirical part,on the basis of reviewing relevant research literature, this paper establishes that FDI will influence energy consumption intensity through two transmission channels: technological progress and industrial structure.Based on the panel data of "one belt and one road",this paper systematically examines the logical relationship between foreign direct investment and the energy consumption intensity of the countries along the belt and road, and then analyzes the impact of foreign direct investment on the intensity of energy consumption from the transmission channel. Finally,we set FDI and other control variables as threshold variables to further study the threshold effect of FDI on energy consumption intensity. The results show that, from the perspective of "all along the way" countries, the model regression results support the hypothesis that foreign direct investment can reduce the intensity of energy consumption. The empirical results show that FDI will promote technological progress and reduce the proportion of the secondary industry. Both technological progress and the reduction of the proportion of the secondary industry will reduce the intensity of energy consumption. The empirical results show that FDI and other control variables are set as threshold variables respectively. The study finds that FDI and urbanization level have a single threshold effect. When the scale of FDI is smal,it promotes the intensity of energy consumption. After the threshold, the increase of FDI will restrain the growth of energy consumption intensity. When the scale of urbanization is small,FDI will significantly reduce the intensity of energy consumption and the scale of urbanization will exceed the scale of urbanization. After the threshold value, the restraining effect of FDI on energy consumption intensity will be weakened. Finally, based on the research results, this paper will put forward reasonable adjustment and optimization of FDI,improve the policy of foreign investment introduction, and implement differentiation policy to attract foreign investment and use policy recommendations to reduce energy consumption intensity.Under the background that the scale of the countries along the belt and road continues to expand and the global trend of absorbing foreign capital along the belt and road continues to expand, the results of this study have important practical significance for guiding the rational utilization of foreign capital along the "one belt" along the route, and achieving sustained economic development.
