In recent years,as China’s aging process continues to accelerate, all parts of the country are actively exploring appropriate forms of old-age building.Among them, the appropriate aging reform of existing buildings has gradually become an important measure.Encouraged by national policies,The development of elderly care projects is very prosperous, and the potential market for aging transformation is huge. However, the current design quality of elderly care facilities in China is not high enough, the design is not suitable for aging, the function configuration is unreasonable, the lack of attention to indoor public space and the spiritual level of the elderly, elderly people are prone to negative emotions such as loneliness and inferiority. To reduce one’s "dignity." The key to solving this problem is not only reflected in the operation and management of the elderly service institutions, but also in the improvement and optimization of the public space environment.Only in this way can the elderly provide a truly dignified living space. This article mainly studies the transformation and design of aging indoor public spaces in order to create an elderly living space that protects the dignity of the elderly.First of all,it analyzes the typical domestic nursing facility design cases, and combines the physical and psychological characteristics of the elderly to analyze the shortcomings in the public spaces of nursing facilities, the shortage of suitable ageing design, and the imperfect functional space planning. Then,by investigating the mature nursing homes in Wuhan and analyzing the excellent foreign nursing facilities,it is concluded that the design of public spaces for nursing facilities in China at this stage should be analyzed from multiple aspects, and from the perspective of humanization and practicality set off.Summarized the need to pay more attention to the spiritual needs of the elderly when designing the suitable aging and reconstruction of indoor public spaces, and to improvethe comprehensive experience in the space through the design of indoor road traffic flow lines.Designed to increase the frequency of space use, these are to enhance the "dignity" of the elderly, emphasizing that the elderly can live easily and freely here.In the end,the dissertation takes an idle office building as a case for reconstruction, and tries to design the indoor public space appropriately.
