Modern Bank Building Research In Tianjin Concession Area

Relying on its superior geographical position and convenient traffic conditions,the modern Tianjin quickly became the economic center of north China after its opening.After the 1880 s,foreign powers set up banks here one after another.By the early 20 th century,Chinese Banks also gradually rose and set up headquarters or branches in Tianjin.At the most,the number of various Banks in Tianjin was as high as more than 180.Tianjin became the financial center of the north.The vast majority of these Banks were located in the concession area,and the buildings were relatively concentrated and varied,ranging from the original colonial colonnade to typical western styles such as classical revivalism,eclecticism,baroque and rococo,to the budding schools of modernism such as the art deco and art nouveau movements and so on.Most of the bank buildings are of beautiful form and fine decoration,which is one of the important components and types of modern architectural heritage in Tianjin and has extremely high cultural relics and practical value.By referring to relevant historical documents,the cultural heritage survey and the current situation survey data over the years,the author finally decides to take the 30 existing modern bank buildings as the main research object in combination with the field research situation,and at the same time takes into account some of the modern bank buildings that can be checked but have disappeared.First,this paper sorts out the development of modern banking industry and its physical carrier in Tianjin and the buildings' preservation and current situation,and summarizes the law and reason of its development and change.Second,the paper makes a detailed analysis and summary of the existing modern bank buildings from the seven aspects of function composition,plane layout,spatial characteristics,architectural technology,appearance style,facade form and detailed features,and finally obtains their past value and contemporary value,and analyzes their influence on the present city and architecture from the three aspects of contemporary Tianjin city image,modern bank architecture design and modern architectural development.As a part of the architectural research system of modern Chinese Banks,this paper aims to further explore the value of such buildings in Tianjin and provide a basis for their future protection and utilization.
