Gu Bo Heights,located in Bogu village,Dongshi,Jingjiang,Quanzhou City,Fujian Province,was a cemetery of imitated Clan burial of the Western Zhou Dynasty.It was built by an oversea Chinese called HuangXiulang born in southern Fujian,used to do business in the Philippines,in the early Republic of China(around 1912—1915).The burial section of the cemetery is similar to modern cemetery.The cemetery is neat and solemn,except the burial section,it has four buildings called Zhanyuanshanju,Jing Monastery,Boyin Building,Xi Hut.There have 190 inscriptions in Zhanyuanshanju and Jing Monastery.The content of tombstone inscriptions is manifold.The authors of these inscription are LiYuanhong,ZhengXiaoxu,WangJingwei,DaWeizhongxin,ChenBaochen,TanYankai,HuangPeisong,KangYouwei,ZhangJian,ZhangBinglin and so on.It contains politicians,revolutionaries,thinkers,calligraphers,artists,oversea Chinese and Scholars.So,Gu Bo Heights has better historical value and artistic value.In recent years,scholars have paid more attention to Gu Bo Heights,a small amount of research on Gu Bo has been done in academia,research perspectives mainly focus on tombstone inscriptions.But research achievements take the Gu Bo Heights as a whole have not been found yet.This article takes Gu Bo Heights as the research object,through a micro-case study to observe social change in Late Qing Dynasty and Early Republic of China.The research try to analyze HuangXiulang's position about the competition between new culture and old culture in Late Qing Dynasty and Early Republic of China through the study of the cemetery's location,architectural composition,buildings,decorate,tombstone inscriptions.Meanwhile,the research combines with the concept of identity of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asia in Late Qing Dynasty and Republic of China to analyze the motive for HuangXiulang's construction.Last,the research explores the responsibility of overseas Chinese in social construction in Late Qing Dynasty and Republic of China.
