The Research On Regional Architecture Design Of Indian Architect Balkrishna Doshi

Balkrishna Doshi won the Pritzker Architecture Award in 2018,and the jury wrote in its comments: “Balkrishna Doshi constantly demonstrates that all good architecture and urban planning must not only unite purpose and structure but must take into account climate,site,technique,and craft,along with a deep understanding and appreciation of the context in the broadest sense Projects must go beyond the functional to connect with the human spirit through poetic and philosophical underpinnings.” Doshi combines the principles of western modernism with traditional Indian culture,and integrates the thinking of Indian life into architectural design and urban planning,showing inclusiveness,openness and unique regionalism in his works.His practice of architectural creation explains the multiple roles of architects,especially in taking social responsibility,dealing with urban and social problems,designing Low-Cost Housing for low-income groups and improving the living environment.From the perspective of Doshi's regional architecture,this paper analyzes his unique regional design concept and design technique.This paper expounds Doshi's regional creation concept from three aspects.Firstly,it introduces the background,reason and process of Doshi's design concept and design technique,and explores the influence brought by the natural and humanistic environment behind his works.Secondly,through the analysis of Doshi's works and related literature,we can understand his regional design concept,discuss his response to social responsibility from the perspective of sustainable development and urban planning,and put his thoughts into the cause of architectural education.Finally,combining with the design concept of Doshi,this paper analyzes the diversified and multi-dimensional design methods in his works.Then the article makes a comprehensive analysis and summary of Doshi's regional architecture creation,and hopes to seek enlightenment from it.As an outstanding representative of Indian architects,Doshi has won the praise of the world.Therefore,it is still of practical significance to explore and analyze his architectural works and his unique design concept and method.
