The remainder space in traffic tunnels is the space outside the tunnel itself, which is formed in the excavation process. With the continuous improvement of the level of urban development, the development and utilization of urban underground space was more and more favored by people.A large amount of remainder space was produced by the construction of underground space at the same time. The serious waste of urban underground space resources had occurred by the neglected use of remainder space. The theoretical research on the development and utilization of remainder space in traffic tunnel lags behind, and the theory of combined development of remainder space in traffic tunnel has not yet formed. This paper studied the development and utilization mode of the remainder space in traffic tunnels, and tried to establish the corresponding theory,so as to provide a theoretical basis for the future development and utilization of the remainder space in traffic tunnels. The main work and conclusions were as follows:(1)Classical underground structure cases were collected through literature and engineering data research,The main utilization forms included underground utility tunnel,Pedestrian Street and public transport facilities, public commercial facilities, underground warehousing and logistics facilities and underground protective space.(2)Demonstrate a method for synchronizing the remainder space with the main line tunnel by way of example.(3)In the design of combined disaster prevention and rescue of remainder space and tunnel,an evacuation passageway should be established, which integrates the space of tunnel and remainder space. In the design, the safety evacuation of crew must be guaranteed first, and the combined safety evacuation of both should be implemented.
