| The rapid progress of economic globalization has brought opportunities and challenges to China’s port industry. At the same time, ports are also facing more fierce competition. The hinterland overlaps and crosses between adjacent ports. In order to avoid vicious competition and repeated construction, and to enhance the efficiency of port investment and operation, building a combined port has become an important measure for port resource integration. The Pearl River Delta is one of China’s economic growth poles. With the Belt and Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area national strategies, the port construction of the Pearl River Delta will play an important role in boosting the regional economic development. However,Guangzhou Port overlaps the adjacent Dongguan Port hinterland, and they are in serious homogeneous competition. In the new Implementation Plan for Promoting Transport Structure Adjustment of Guangdong Province, the functional layout of Guangzhou Port and Dongguan Port is similar. Therefore,it is imperative to integrate the resources of Guangzhou Port and Dongguan Port.Firstly, this paper analyzes the combined port development model and select the appropriate model of Guangzhou Port and Dongguan Port. These views are on the base of relevant research of domestic and foreign scholars.Secondly,by comparing the development status of the two ports with the economic development of the hinterland, the problems that exist in the development of competition and cooperation between the two ports are discussed.Thirdly, the paper first analyzes the game with the classic Cournot model, and then expand the Hotelling model from one dimension to two dimensions, taking into account the port service level, increasing the number of ports.Based on the two strategies of non cooperative game and cooperative game, the necessity of building a combined port between the two ports is verified. The analysis of the examples shows that the improvement of the port service level leads to the enhancement of the port’s efficiency, and that it also has an effect on the overall efficiency of the combined port. Finally,it explores the feasibility of constructing the combined port between Guangzhou Port and Dongguan Port, and puts forward relevant suggestions for the development of combined port. |
