Research On The Aging Design Of Streets And Public Environment In Old Urban Area Of SuZhou

With the advancement of medicine,the improvement of sanitary conditions and the nutritional structure,the change of the birth concept.and the impact of the birth control in the 1970s,the trend of aging of population increasingly serious in China.SuZhou,as a leader of city development in south of JiangSu,it has become the second-largest immigrant city after Shenzhen in recent years,and about 50%of the permanent residents are new Suzhou residents.Taking the urban area of Suzhou as an example,most new Suzhou residents prefer Suzhou Industrial Parks as residence because there have more modern city quality and cultural tolerance.Compared with the new urban area,the old urban area has deeper historical and regional cultural heritage,but as the resident population continues to rise in age,it faces more and more severe aging challenges.The old urban area of Suzhou has undergone several upgrades of streets and public environment in more than two thousand years.however,affected by basic conditions,cultural relics and other factors,the overall street environment still has a big gap with the new urban area.Due to poor old house conditions and parking difficulties in old urban area,the children of elderly perfer to live in new urban area.Therefore,the street environment in the old urban area mainly serves elderly residents,especially those living streets where motor vehicles are inaccessible.Streets and public environments are important places for elderly to socialize,shop,entertain,exercise and other activities in daily lives.However,the current street environment is generally not suitable for the elderly,they lacks consideration of the real needs of the elderly,causing the elderly difficult to walk and go out alone at night,lack of social places...Therefore,research on the design for the aged of street and public environment is a urgently subject at present.The purpose of study is to propose street environments design points for the aged by understanding the relationship between the physical,psychological,behavioral activities of the elderly and the elements of the street environment,analyzes the real needs of the elderly.The research aims to study the streets and public environments design for the aged in the old urban area of Suzhou,imaging the Big from the Small to provide reference for the construction of street environments in the future,so as to promote the sustainable development of social life under the trend of aging.
