This article focuses on Goethe's architectural view and his contributions to architectural concepts. This great writer has a different understanding of architecture as time goes by and knowledge grows. He was greatly appreciated when he first saw the Cathedral of Strasbourg. After his trip to Italy,he was fascinated by the grandeur and elegance of classical architecture. However,in his later years,he recalled his feelings when he first saw Strasbourg Cathedral, saying that "there is nothing to be ashamed of."Therefore, this article attempts to link Goethe's articles about architecture with his life to find out the reasons for the changes in his architectural view. There are roughly three main factors: First, the influence of Vitruvian and Palladio;Second,Goethe's strong interest in botany and research, which also has a negligible impact on his architectural view.Third,Goethe's trip to Italy is undoubtedly the direct cause of the transformation of Goethe's architectural view.Through this trip,Goethe has been in close contact with classical style architecture, and has obtained a lot of first-hand information about classical architecture, which also directly promoted Goethe architecture.A change in view.In order to better understand the influence of Vitruvian,Palladio and other architectural views on Goethe, and how Goethe formed his own architectural viewpoint step by step, this article will examine his life and life background to a certain extent. So that a specific theme is outlined. The early life of Goethe before his trip to Italy can be found in his own autobiography and many other biographies, including the most recent book,Poetry and the Times,by Nicholas Boyle. In addition to the introduction and conclusions, the full text is divided into three chapters. The first chapter describes Goethe's subtle attitude towards Gothic architecture. The second chapter is about his love for classical architecture after he came into contact with classical theory, especially Palladio's theory, and his trip to Italy. And the third part, after he studied and explored for 50 years,he finally treated the difference between the two architectural styles with a rational attitude, thus making his architectural concept reach the integration of sensibility and rationality, classical and romantic. The realm of the realm, and on the basis of the predecessors through further research and study to develop their own views.
