| This paper adopts the descriptive analysis method to describe the development stages of water pump enterprises in C Township of Shaodong County,Hunan Province,in order to reveal the internal logic between institutional environment and organizational behavior behind different stages of development.According to the classification of institutions proposed by Scott, this paper constructs the analytical framework of institutional environment into three dimensions:compulsory system, normative system and cognitive system. In order to investigate the influence of three dimensions of institutional environment on organizational behavior of C township pump enterprises under the “long” development and change, behind their different stages of development.Specifically, this study is based on field research and document research, divides the development stage of pump enterprises in C Township into three stages: the birth of industrial and commercial water pump factory(1972-1998),the development of private pumping enterprises in C Township(1998-2008),and the decline of pumping enterprises in C Township(Since 2008).By comparing the three stages of the text situation, the paper draws the following conclusions: 1)Institutional environment influences organizational behavior,in which the degree and mode of influence of compulsory system, normative system and cognitive system are different in different periods;2)The neglect or not value of the institutional environment will reduce the ability of organizations to obtain legitimate resources, and the enterprises performance will deteriorate;3)The acquisition of organizational legitimacy resources can be explained from external and internal perspectives.According to the characteristics of different research objects, different perspectives are adopted. In this study, the C Township Pump Enterprises under the compulsory system are mainly explained from external perspectives. The impact of normative and cognitive systems on the ability of organizations to acquire legitimate resources is mainly from the organization internal perspective;4)The institutional environment itself will also change;5)The organizational behavior shaped by the institutional environment sometimes leads to a kind of inertia, which means that the organization may depend on the judgment formed by the institutional environment of the previous stage. |
