In view of the serious congestion of freeway during holidays due to the surge of travel demand but lack of effective coordination mechanism,this paper studies the application method of trip reservation mode in the scenario of freeway during holidays.As one of the methods of traffic demand management,trip reservation mode requires drivers to reserve the right-of-way for specific period and route in advance of departure,so the traffic operators can prevent road congestion by limiting the number of trip quotas.Therefore,in the context of the rapid development of communication technology and intelligent transportation system,studying and designing appropriate schemes of trip reservation can help to alleviate freeway congestion and provide some reference for freeway traffic management during holidays.The main research work of this paper is as follows:(1)Analysis on present situation of freeway trips during holidays and benefit as well as feasibility of trip reservation mode.Firstly,the characteristics of holiday freeway traffic demand are summarized based on actual traffic data,and then the causes of travel delay are summarized.Through the analysis and comparison of bottleneck delay,the function and benefit of trip reservation mode are expounded.Finally,the feasibility of the mode in the future is expounded from three aspects such as road environmental conditions,technical conditions and public acceptance.(2)Design on the trip reservation mode scheme in the scenario of holiday freeway.The design purpose and considerations of the mode are expounded,on the basis of studying the existing schemes of reservation mode,from the perspectives such as improving the fairness of trip quota allocation,an improved reservation mechanism is designed.And considering the functional requirements of trip reservation system like decision-making iteration optimization,the system composition and functional design scheme is proposed,and the process schemes of system operation and user reservation are given.Finally,combined with an numerical example,the benefit of the proposed trip reservation mode in improving the fairness of trip quota allocation is verified by the Gini coefficient.(3)Research on the capacity planning method for trip quota in trip reservation mode.Aiming at the problem of how to determine the number of trip quota for all kinds of travel demand during each period in trip reservation mode,base on the study of the existing relevant methods and combined with the functional characteristics of the trip reservation mode scheme designed in this paper,a bi-level model for trip quota capacity planning is established.,considering factors such as the distribution characteristics of various travel demand,the flow control of various bottleneck sections like toll station as well as the merging area of freeway,and the system optimum traffic assignment.Finally,the solution method is given according to the characteristics of the model.(4)Simulation experiment and benefit evaluation.Combined with an numerical example,a control experiment is designed and a VISSIM simulation experiment is conducted,the simulation results show that compared with the existing typical models,the number of vehicles passing through the road network in the scheme of the proposed model is slightly smaller,but the bottleneck congestion is effectively alleviated,and the vehicle travel delay is significantly reduced.It shows that the model proposed in this paper can effectively improve the rationality of the trip quota capacity planning.The simulation results also prove that the trip reservation mode has the benefit of alleviating traffic congestion.
