Research On The Application Of DFMEA Tools In Automobile Parts Design And Development

The full name of FMEA is ’Failure Mode and Effects Analysis’.It is a behavior before the incident,not an afterthought.It is a tool which has been widely used in quality control.There are numerous important components included in a car,and exhaust system and steering column are two of them..For our products on sale,the IPTV(Incident Per Thousand Vehicles)for exhaust system and steering column is quite high,customers have strong complaints on them.In our design and development process of new vehicle,we mainly focus on the analysis and application of FMEA.Use the FMEA tools to improve product design control components design quality,and finally to achieve the goal of reducing IPTV.Firstly,this dissertation introduces the concept of FMEA,clearly illustrates the definition,classification,failure modes and execution steps of FMEA.Secondly,Applying DFMEA into development process by combining certain vehicle’s exhaust system assembly and steering column development.Firstly,gather previous product failure modes,draw out system chart,figure out components’ interrelationship and divide function modes by using function matrix of relation;Secondly,analyze failure mode,effects,root-cause and prevention/detection of exhaust system assembly and steering column;Lastly,evaluate risks and make countermeasures for high risk items.Using Affinity diagram,comparison test and finite element analysis as key tools to look for root causes and help to make countermeasures.At the end of the article,two components’ DFMEA charts are provided for later project’s reference.By using DFMEA in exhaust system and steering column development,we not only enhanced component’s design quality,but also reduced component development cost and project risk,and achieved target.
