Lead-acid battery as the secondary battery has many advantages such as rich raw materials, low cost, safety, mature production technology and widely application. With the development of the society and the progress of technology, market has a higher requirements for the service life and reliability of quality. The company could take benefit from developing a long-life lead-acid battery to improve the reliability of products, increase the market competitiveness and reduce maintenance costs. These can produce the greatest social benefits.Based on the present lead-acid battery situation of Y company, the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) principle and application are introduced, especially the path and method by DFMEA analysis to improve the product quality. Also, this paper analyzes the various factors affecting the quality of lead-acid battery, by adopting DFMEA analysis tools to find the main failure factors, to improve product life and reliability. Then, the specific cases are given as the proof and explanation. At last, the service life and the effect of reliability are evaluated, what’s more, the suggestions and improvement measures are proposed.
