Recently,the speed of hydropower project construction is accelerating,which shortens the available time for design.Meanwhile,with the refiarm of the state-owned design companies,they are being more market-oriented,and the competition is more intense.These two poi-nts make the design companies face great challenges.The low-effieiency and high human resource cost of the 2D design are more troublesome,which forces the design companiels to innovate the technology.By improving the efficiency and quality,shortening the design time,and reducing th,e human resource cost,the competition among design companies is undergoing.With Building Information Modeling(BIM)becoming hot in civil structure design,it is the technological inoovatioti direction for the design companies to use 3D BIM for hydropower design.Moreover,compared with single applications,BIM is more efficient in integrated and collaborative design of different parts of hydropower projects.In order to achieve the aim,this paper carried out the relevant works by consulting technical data,discussing the lectotype of the platform,studying the 3D design sofewares,process and platform,and proposed tho solution for the 3D hydropower design.Moreover,the author also set up a 3D collaborative design platform,a suit of 3D design standards and process.Finally,the implementation of 3D hydropower design is carried out.Through this research,it is proved that the softwares which improved the efficiency and quality,satisfy the needs of the hydropower design.The purpose of shortening the design time and reducing the human resource cost have been achieved.In addition,some problems have also been found:the softwares are developed by foreign companies,and the maturity of being used in China is not sufficient.That leads to the conflict between the software functions and the design mode in China,so it cannot produce the greatest effect.This is the direction for further research in the future.
