| Since the reform and open policy,China’s foreign trade has undergone rapid development.The reform and open policy and accession to the WTO have all contributed to the development of China’s trade.Since 2009,China has been in the forefront of the world in terms of imports and exports,but far behind other countries of the same level in terms of product quality.How to improve the quality of Chinese enterprises’ export products and enhance their international competitiveness is an urgent problem to be solved in China’s trade development.Railway construction can promote the development and optimization of local enterprises,and it plays a very important role in regional economic development.In addition,railway construction can also promote the export of Chinese enterprises,which has been confirmed by many scholars.Under the circumstances of domestic economic development and international urgent need to improve product competitiveness,it is of great significance to study the relationship between railway construction and export product quality of enterprises.By sorting out the related literatures on railway construction,infrastructure construction and product quality,we find railway construction can promote the economy and trade volume.Based on the research of other scholars,this paper uses the enterprise financial data and trade data of Qinghai and Tibet provinces from 2000 to 2009,and uses the Difference-in-Differences Method to analyze the relationship between the construction of Qinghai-Tibet railway and the export product quality of enterprises in the two provinces.Through statistical analysis,we find that the number of export products and enterprises in Qinghai and Tibet provinces tended to increase,from 2000 to 2009,at the same time,the technological complexity of export products has increased.Through empirical analysis we find that the export products of enterprises in Qinghai and Tibet played a significant role in promoting the quality of export products,after the opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway.In order to prove the positive correlation between the two,this paper made a number of robustness tests.Firstly,the product quality was re-evaluated,then modify the distance between the enterprise and the railway station,reset the railway construction time and other important control variable,the results show that the positive correlation between the two is still established;Through the mechanism inspection and analysis of railway construction and export product quality we find that railway construction can affect the quality of export products by three ways: industrial agglomeration,technological innovation and production efficiency.On the basis of mechanism test,according to the characteristics of enterprise types in Qinghai-Tibet region,the paper classifies enterprises and finds that railway construction has different promoting effects on the quality of export products of state-controlled,collective-controlled and other holding enterprises.The main contributions of this paper are mainly reflected in data and methods.The data come from the matching data of Customs Database,Chinese Industrial Enterprise Database and GPS satellite positioning system.The DID method is used to study the construction of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway as a quasi-natural experiment,this method can avoid endogenous and missing variables problems. |
