The Study Of The Application Of Peony Cultural Symbols In Luoyang Parks

As one of the top ten famous flowers in China,Peony has a very high ornamental value.Along with the development of peony viewing activities,the traditional peony cultures have been formed and widely used in garden designing.The peony cultural symbols carry the important historical responsibility of spreading peony cultures,and the study on the current application of it in Luoyang parks has a profound influence on the development of Luoyang’s peony cultural tourism and the construction of the capital of peony culture.On the basis of teasing out the development history of peony culture and the existence form of peony cultural symbols,this paper conducted a comprehensive field survey of Chinese National Flower Park,Sui & Tang Dynasties Relics Botanical Garden,Luopu Park,Wangcheng Park and Xiyuan Park.The landscape design,garden sketches and others related to the peony cultural symbols were recorded by taking photos.According to the survey results,this paper analyzes the application of peony ornamentation,painting,poetry and songs,legendary allusions,flower symbolic meaning and records of celebrities contributing to peony cultures in the gardens and parks;it also synthesizes literature,calligraphy,aesthetics and other multidisciplinary theories to conduct analysis and evaluation of the application of peony cultural symbols in Luoyang gardens.The main research results are as follows:(1)According to the expression of the connotation of peony culture,peony cultural symbols can be divided into three categories: the type of direct use,borrowed extension and artistic expression.The Chinese National Flower Park and the Sui & Tang Dynasties Relics Botanical Garden mainly focus on the type of artistic expression,supplemented by the borrowing extension and the direct use,while Wangcheng Park,Luopu Park and Xiyuan Park mainly focus on the type of direct use,supplemented by artistic expression and borrowing extension.(2)The peony cultural symbols are most widely used in the Chinese National Flower Park and Sui & Tang Dynasties Relics Botanical Garden.Peony ornamentation,painting,poetry and songs,peony-related legendary allusions and records of figures contributing to peony culture are applied to road paving,signs,publicity boards,landscapes,sculptures,landscape columns,pavilions,murals and other garden carriers.(3)Peony cultural symbols can be divided into physical application forms and virtual application forms.The applications of the former are mainly embodied in garden elements such as garden roads,sketches,landscape walls,and architectural decoration,and the applications of the latter are mainly contained in garden elements such as landscape stones,pavilions and galleries,murals,plaques,sculptures and landscape walls.Due to the different nature of each park,there are also differences in the concrete manifestations of the combination of virtual form and physical form to convey the connotation of peony culture.The use of peony cultural symbols in gardens is the inheritance of traditional gardening techniques in China.The research results will have certain practical guiding significance for the future construction of peony gardens.
