Study On Application Of Tree Peony And Tree Peony Culture In Chinese Traditional Garden

Peony, is one of the top ten traditional famous flowers in China and it is also very uniqueflowers in Chinese garden.Peony’s colour is bright and colourful,it’s also gorgeous noble andelegant. It is regarded as garden treasures since ancient times.In this article, through field investigation combined with theoretical knowledge, a huge variety of Chinese traditional gardenapplication related information about peony were collected. Taking the historical and culturaldevelopment of peony and its concrete manifestation as clues, a full analysis of what culture peony stands for and it’s value in the Chinese traditional landscape were discussed.In addition,the application of peony in the royal gardens, temple gardens and private gardens were also depicted concretely.In this article,the discussion were made as mainly following aspects. Firstly, the origin development process about peony were introduced briefly and the history of it’s cultivation andthe concrete conditions in each dynasty were also discribed. Secondly, the application and cultural value of peony were analysised and the application in landscape gardening in our country were depicted.Thirdly, according to the history, literary and art manifestation of peony is varied. In the application of traditional garden, it’s cultural value and literary value is veryhigh.Finally, the application example of peony in the royal gardens, temple gardens and private gardens were gived analyzed.Thus,the illustration of peony in Chinese traditional gardenapplication form as well as performance will be more vividly.The specific conclusions are asfollows:1. Since the ancient times, our people have a great interest of contemplating and plantingpeony.The history of it’s cultivation and it’s application in our traditional garden can date backto very long ago.Because of it’s cultivate history,habits,culture as well as deep foundation in people’s folk custom, the emperor,munk and civilians applied it into their own gardens.It’s alsopresent at indoor carving,drawing and kinds of apparel.2. From Sui Dynasty toTsing Dynasty,the use of peony indicated that people loves it.3. The application forms of peony in traditional Chinese garden are specialized gardens, flower border, parterre, group planting, opposite planting,isolated planting and linear planting.As peony varieties became abundant, as well as gardening technique became mature, the application of peony increasingly focus on the use of terrain, buildings, rocks and other landscape e lements to be more perfect.4. By researching the ancient treasures of peony, definite current situation of the ancient tree peony planting of each places are cleared.5. The poetry, floralart, painting, sculpture, carved decoration, patterning and pattern design also reflects the peony’s influence in garden life.After investigateing peony garden of Xingqing Palace (Xi’an), Daming Palace (Xi’an) and the peony in Da Ci’en Temple(Xi’an),Shuangta Temple (Taiyuan), Ho Park of Yangzhou, Humble Administrator’s Garden(Suzhou), some question were found and still need more research.1. The information about peony varieties applicated in royal garden is not complete yet.2. The description about how peony combine with other garden factors in private garden in each period still need collection.3. The nameplate about the peony’s name and age is not enough.That makes investigationharder.4. Garden managers do not pay enough attention to the ancient and current treasures of peony.Some people may pick off the flowers.5. The carving at ancient architecture and painting of peony are subject to some damage.We should take action to protect them.
