Dengcheng Yeshi Manor is a Qing Dynasty dwelling house located in Shangshui County,Zhoukou City, the southern plain of the settlement area of Eastern Henan. It was built in Kangxi and completed in 1880(Guangxu years). It has gone through more than a century before and after, and was appraised by the State Council as a national key cultural relic protection unit in 2013.It is a high-quality dwelling in eastern Henan.Based on the in-depth study of the architectural characteristics of Ye’s Manor itself, this paper compares it with other traditional dwellings in the adjacent areas,i.e.the east,South and north of Henan Province.Starting from the characteristics of traditional dwellings, this paper further reveals the deep layer behind the formation of Ye’s Manor’s residential characteristics by synthesizing the regional cultural environment, geographical and climatic conditions and material and technological conditions.Reasons, and find out some of the North-South hybrid and transitional characteristics of traditional residential architecture form and practice. The full text is divided into six chapters.Firstly, the paper introduces and combs the geography and Humanities of Yeshi Manor in Dengcheng Town in detail.Because of the damage of Ye’s manor and the difference between its present situation and historical outlook, this paper first makes a literature review of its historical evolution,i.e.the historical process of construction and the background of the times, and then gives a basic overview of its historical layout.Secondly, compared with its historical overview, the more realistic research value is the existing part of the manor. On the basis of field survey, the paper objectively and detailedly describes the characteristics of its current situation, which paves the way for the follow-up analysis and research of its architectural characteristics. Then, the paper makes an in-depth analysis of the architectural features of Ye’s manor’s traditional dwellings, which is the key part of this study. This part mainly contains two levels: the first level, the detailed analysis and study of the space layout of the manor’s own courtyard, the plane, elevation, structure and decorative features of the building monomer;the second level, due to Ye’s manor.Dengcheng Town of Zhoukou City is located in the Huaihe River system, which is close to the commercial ferry with convenient transportation and runs through the north and south. It is located in the transitional zone between the north and the south. The eastern part of Henan is connected with the north and the southern part of Henan. The climate features also show the transitional characteristics from subtropical monsoon climate to temperate continental climate from hot to cold. And the influence of official orthodox culture from north to south is weakened in turn due to geographical isolation. All the above factors have more or less influenced the formation of the characteristics of Ye’s manor traditional residential buildings. In order to explore the deepseated reasons behind the formation of the characteristics of Ye’s manor traditional residential buildings, starting from the architectural ontology, this paper compares the characteristics of Ye’s manor traditional residential buildings with those of other traditional residential buildings in Eastern Henan, and at the same time,it also compares them with the plain areas in northern Henan. The traditional dwellings in southern Henan are compared in detail. Finally,on the basis of the above analysis and comparison of architectural characteristics, the reasons for the formation of traditional residential architectural characteristics of Ye’s Manor are further analyzed by synthesizing the relevant conditions, namely, the cultural environment, geographical and climatic conditions and material and technical conditions in the region.
