With the coming of the artificial intelligence era, people pursue a more advanced and natural way to interact with the guiding system since the traditional way can no longer meet the travel needs of the visually impaired. The multi-sensory modality interaction mode enables the visually impaired person to have a good user experience by providing a more natural way when they receiving the guiding information, thus becoming an important interaction mode.By far,the navigation software installed in the smartphone can smoothly guide the visually impaired to perform regular activities on the urban ground, but it cannot effectively guide them to complete the action of taking the subway. However, through the implantation of scientific and technological means,it is possible to position the visually impaired in the underground precisely and provide a more convenient subway travel service. This study combines the traditional guiding system with the interaction design method, aiming to provide a natural way of interaction to the visually impaired by applying the multi-sensory modality interaction method to the design of guidance services, thus improving the shortcomings of the existing guiding systems that failed to serve the visually impaired effectively.A detailed literature review is firstly carried out to investigate the fundamental design elements of the subway space guiding system. The effects of such special environmental on human physiology, psychology and cognition are studied, and the characteristic of subway space guidance system are summarized.Next, the behaviors of visually impaired people ' s access to information is studied as well as their psychological and physiological characteristics.A series of questionnaire surveys, interviews, and observational studies are conducted on the visually impaired in order to sort out the key needs when they are taking subways. The specific behaviors of the visually impaired are analyzed simultaneously.Review on the new technology related to the travel of visually impaired people are conducted to pave the way for the final design.Further, the design flow of this study is established, and the interaction modes of the visually impaired guidance system in the subway space is proposed, which is multi-sensory modality interaction mode, behavior cognition mode and emotional experience mode, respectively. The PACT interactive system is combined with the key elements proposed from the foregoing to form the interactive design mode of the visually impaired in the subway space. The gesture principle of the visually impaired guidance system is constructed by adopting the product's interactive gesture method.Lastly,a subway space guidance system combining smart glasses, intelligent blind traveling system and tactile guidance cards is proposed for the visually impaired, and a case study in the Chengshan Road subway station in Shanghai is conducted to examine the proposed design. This study may provide references for designers and researchers in related design fields. The above findings highlighted the importance of safeguarding the basic rights and interests of the visually impaired in social activities, which has great implications for the establishment and development of the guiding system of China's subway space, enhancing the care consciousness of the vulnerable groups in China.
