Traditional block is basic unit of urban protection and remediation.Since carrying out opening-door policy,China has continued to carry out large-scale urban development and construction,reaching an unprecedented state.Due to lack of historical experience,urban management and planning are in the time of exploration.At present,China's urban planning has gradually entered the stage of stock planning,which is no longer the original stage of urban planning.Under the ever-expanding urban construction boundary,the focus of urban construction has gradually shifted,and renovation faced by old traditional neighborhoods is also increasing.The model of original demolition construction is unable to keep pace with the development and construction of contemporary cities.Under this circumstance,the new concept of urban repair has attracted widespread attention from all walks of life by its characteristics of refinement and less impact.In the stage of rapid development and construction in urban areas,as a space carrier of urban activities,traditional neighborhoods are prone to have problems such as incomplete functions and unreasonable organization.As the time goes by,such problems have become more and more prominent and need to be solved urgently.Based on perspective of urban design,this research carried deep research on protection and remediation as well as influencing factors of urban traditional block to improve the problems above.Then,the research provided strategies and constructive suggestions for optimization of protection and rectification of traditional blocks in Dunhuang city,which could be referred for the city to optimize urban protection and remediation in.Finally,the research resulted with outcome of protection and rectification of the Gaotai Lane traditional scenic spots in Dunhuang City.Based on the empirical analysis and combined existing scholars' research results,this paper summarized the existing problems and proposed strategies of adjustment and adaptation based on level of vitality and urban restoration.The purpose of the paper is to fully explore the protection value of Gaotai Lane traditional scenic spots in Dunhuang,proposing strategies that are different from that of protection of historical and cultural blocks.Proposal of the urban design adjustment strategy,improvement of spatial organization of traditional blocks,realization of efficient integration of its functional layout,establishment of harmonious neighborhood style and dynamic public space,these strategies will make urban design fully play its important role,keeping the space environment in sync with the needs of users and highlighting the value of protection and remediation of traditional neighborhoods in society and urban development.Gaotai Lane as the core location,urban space and historical and cultural status,the results of its protection and rectification will reflect the results of the multicultural renaissanceof Dunhuang.At the end of the paper,it was illustrated that cultural renaissance is also a way of protecting and inheriting the historical culture of Gaotai Lane traditional scenic spots in Dunhuang.The block also provides material foundation and space carrier for cultural renaissance of Dunhuang.Intangible culture is given to tangible streets,spaces,and buildings.In the process of protection and rectification of Gaotai Lane,it is necessary to inherit historical culture in terms of street style,local architectural symbols,regional style,architectural function renewal and intangible cultural heritage.Forming local urban characteristic and improving city image are also trend of protection and renewal of traditional block.
