China has a long history and numerous ancient towns,it has a superior natural landscape,as a special type in town,ancient town has a long history and unique landscapes,but usually it has a smaller scale and suffers a severe land shortage,causing the lack of public space in the ancient town,and the resident has less daily leisure space.The neighborhood of ancient town as a portal landscape of ancient town,it can provide a public space for residents,on the other hand,it’s a better propaganda effect of the ancient town culture through the landscape planning and design.Waterfront landscape is one of the most popular landscape types with the public,Waterfront parks have always been a good place for people to leisure and entertainment,Most of ancient town has a unique water conservancy conditions,using these resources for the surrounding landscape design to coordinate urban waterfront landscape and ancient style,At the same time,for the ancient town residents there is a good place for recreation,combined the advantage of the ancient town with the advantages of waterfront landscape,created a new card for the ancient town and injected new vitality,it has great significance of the development ot ancient town and clty.The paper studied the relevant theories at home and abroad,The related concepts of ancient town and the urban waterfront landscape are studied respectively,then combined with specific cases at home and abroad,analyzed the character and function of waterfront landscape in the neighborhood of ancient town,Summed up the waterfront landscape design principles and strategies in the neighborhood of ancient town.Finally,took the example of Zhao river Waterfront Park in Shedian ancient town,made the ancient town culture into the urban waterfront landscape,promote the image of the city through the planning and design of Zhao river Waterfront Park,thus promote the development of the city and ancient town.
