The Classical garden construction pays attention to "appropriate",by contrast,the research of scale law is extremely scarce,which causes the construction of plenty antique garden staying in designers'intuitive perception and lack of sufficient theoretical basis.The study of ancient garden scale needs to be traced back to when and where the specific objects were constructed,and find out the construction ruler of specific dynasty and region.As the local construction scale of Suzhou since Song Dynasty,Wu scale becomes the key to sacle law research of Ming and Qing Dynasties garden remains.The Wu scale-based application of integer scale and proportion relationship in the Suzhou garden is studied from three aspects:the overall layout,the gardening elements and the section control.This paper has two main academic contributions:First,applying scale research methods of ancient cities and construction,discussing the expression of integer scale-based proportion relationship in the courtyard garden and.Second,taking Suzhou courtyard garden as recearch objects and introducing local construction scale—Wu scale.The research shows that Suzhou courtyard garden develops the basic modulus and proportional control system based on the simple idea of specific number and equal division.The main research result of this paper is summarized as followed.First,the layout of courtyard garden used 25 Wu scale as the basic modulus,and 50,100,200 as expansion modulus based on 25.This modulus system is applied and extended in many aspects of Suzhou courtyard garden:the base size,the division of the garden space,landscape scale,sight distance between the buildings,the path cycle.Second,the construction of courtyard garden took simple ratios as reference to control the scale relationship of parts and whole,and create a proportional control system which based on 1:1 and 1:1-1:5 as the main part.1:1-1:2 ratio was applied extensively in site planning,landscape ratio,distance between multi-point architecture and the proportion of garden elements.1:2-1:5 ratio was applied extensively in section control.
