With the rapid development of our animation industry in recent years,a large number of excellent animated films have been produced frequently,while the design of derivative products of animated films is backward.Derivative products of animated films are not only important interest growth points of homemade animated films,but also the extension of animated film spirit and values.Moreover,good derivative products can prolong the life of animated films.With the passing of time,roles and plots of animated films will gradually fade out of people's memory.Whether the animated films can last long depends on the development of their derivative products to a great extent.This paper firstly makes research and comparative analysis of the definition,characteristics of animated films and the definition and forms of existence of their derivative products,and elaborates current situation of derivative products design both at home and abroad.It points out that current design of derivative products of animated films in China has shortages,proposing specific problems of derivative products at early and intermediate stages of design,including fuzzy design positioning,the lack of design strategy,single design model and fixed design method.Secondly,it divides audiences into children,young people and elderly people and explores their consumption demand and purchasing capability.Besides,it proposes three strategies of copyright,product and brand to solve the problems at early design stage based on target audiences.Thirdly,to deal with the problems appeared in the core intermediate stage of design,it proposes three models of pre-design,synchronous design and post-design for derivatives as well as three methods of interesting elements,interactive elements and emotional elements application.Lastly,it designs the derivatives of “Fairy Princess” from three aspects of design strategy,design model and design method.By way of a critical study of the derivatives of animated films,this thesis concludes the following research results and innovative points.The profit of animated films is not limited to box office as their derivatives provide another profitability for animated films.The market value hidden in derivatives of animated films to be explored is much higher than the film itself.The derivatives of animated films can attain long-term development by studying and designing derivatives with an attitude toward goods.Furthermore,according to the research on derivatives of animated films at different design stages,it proposes design paths and methods that derivatives of general animated films can take in an exploratory way.
