Analyzing Building Patterns Of Public Building Plots

As a large proportion of buildings in Chinese cities,Public buildings play an important role in forming a city's spatial images and features.In the past 30 years'urbanization,with most of Chinese cities expanding their sizes,public buildings has enjoyed a rapid development.Influenced by a mixture of complicated factors such as land usage,land quotes,boundary conditions,economic reasons and pedestrian traffic,these buildings feature the complexity in architectural style and diversification in overall layout.According to Urban Morphology,streets,land and architecture layout are three main parts that form a city and are differ from research scope and categories.However,the past studies on land for public buildings in urban morphology mostly focused on the regular and uniform rectangular land,which boasts a big difference in Chinese urban context.This paper is a case study centering on land for public buildings in Nanjing,giving a comprehensive statistics and analysis based on architecture layout and the morphological features and quotes of land as well as their relations.The statistical basis of this paper comes from blocks with more public buildings in old zones of main urban areas of Nanjing.In this paper,the author mainly discusses the relations of architecture layout,morphological features of land and land quotes.The first chapter is a general introduction with research origins and background,architecture layout of land for public buildings as the research object and the research methods adopted.The second chapter is a review of literature,which involves fields of urban morphology,design of public building sites,design of high-rise building sites and related design regulations,providing the theoretical basis for this study.The third one is a survey on land for public buildings.First,we select the sample land by measuring the impact of plot ratio and coverage ratio on architecture layout and analyzing the plot ratio and coverage ratio of existing land for public buildings,and then we make the description and classification on geometry,area,boundary conditions and land quotes for sample land.The fourth one is the body of this paper.With the description and classification on types of single building layout in land for public buildings,we make a comparative analysis between the layout types and some factors such as area,shape,boundary conditions,land usage and building height.At the end of this chapter,we define and classify the positional relation between main buildings and their skirt buildings,and then make a comparative analysis between the concluded positional relation and factors including area,land usage and boundary conditions.The last chapter is a conclusion which comprises the summary of this paper,some existing deficiencies and the author's prospects for future research.The whole thesis contains about 34000 words,63 pictures and charts.
