Research On The Renewal Of Courtyards In Contemporary Beijing Historic Districts

The exploration of Peking' s old towns moves forward with reflection,from Juer Hutong? Niujie? Nanchizi to the “Microcycle Renewal”,which lasted more than three decades,but the debate of renewal Peking' s old towns always falls into the deadlock between protection and renewal.During the past few years,a series of experimental renewal d courtyard projects took place,which attracted well-known architects to participate in the activity of old towns' renewal.The experiments of the architects are more innovative,comparing to those what they did in the past.They approve neither protectionism nor destructiveism.This article studies the renewal cases of modern Peking' s historical courtyards and summarizes the exploration of renewal courtyards from different angles,in order to provide valuable reference for the coming renewal activities.This article firstly states the study background and then defines the study purpose?meaning? related concepts and range.It also elaborates domestic and foreign studies of study foundations and frames.The second chapter of this article organizes the renewal history of Peking's old towns and provides vertical evidence for modern exploration.The third and fourth chapters are the core chapters of this article,the fourth chapter analyzes the reform cases of modern living courtyards.The fourth chapter studies and compares the space experiment of “ tiny space for living” and standard design of “one courtyard,more families”,concerning the contradiction between the traditional outlook and modern living under high dense population.The fourth chapter analyzes the renewal cases of modern non-living courtyards and comes to conclusion that architects have diverse attitudes towards the contradiction between traditional outlook and new functional needs.The article not only elaborates the three tendencies-restorative construction,analogy expansion and heterogeneous expansion,but also elaborates the newest proposals.The fifth chapter reflects and prospects the present Peking' s renewal old courtyards,concerning the problems that occurred during the reform.The article analyzes the questions such as” the actual needs of residents and the reform of architects” and “ the outlook preservation and innovative contradiction” and summarizes the development of the courtyard in Beijing's historical district.
