Research On The Assistive Product Of Bathroom For The Elderly Based On Universal Designtheory

Alongside the global trend in aging,the problems led by rapid growth of aging in China should be solved promptly.China's poor infrastructure for the senior citizens as well as the public facilities,social security and current products for them fails to meet their really demand.According to a research,the first cause which kill old people are failing and half of the failing can be found in bathroom.So they may exposed to greater security risks,however,there is little bathroom systems which really aim to senior citizens in China.While the real products are designed by foreigners,which is too expensive to afford for common people.Hence the issue is of great meaning.We found the value and social inclusiveness should be considered when designing the product.Affected by traditional culture and national conditions,China ' s traditional household model is made up of three generations who are living together.So a system with harmony and social inclusiveness should be the candidate to solve the problem of aging.This paper is based on the idea that a system should be design for a Chinese traditional common household,analyzing the physiological and psychological characteristics as well as behaviors of senior citizens,surveying the form of seat,handrail and urgent calling system in a bathroom,gaining old people's routes in the bathroom via questionnaire survey and interview,analyzing the problems trouble them when using the bathroom system and founding the disadvantages of the system which may affect older people.Finally,as the subject of the paper,based on the ideal of universal property,bathroom,assistive facilities and the parts of bathing apparatus were analyzed,which led to the working out of the final design.The new system can safeguard senior citizens when they are in bathroom,making them taking a shower independently so as to increase their better life index and decrease the society and family's stress.
