China is in the stage of rapid urbanization construction,as one of the countries with the most highway mileage in the world,the demand for asphalt for road paving is extremely high.Asphalt is a petroleum refining product.In recent years,the rising prices for oil has led to the rising cost of asphalt,thus China’s highway construction is facing enormous cost pressures.Although SBS modified asphalt has the advantages in performance and cost,the cost of adding SBS is still high.Meanwhile,rubber,as a good additive,is used to improve the performance of asphalt,the cost in road construction is greatly reduced.Rubber powder is made of waste tires,the amount addition in road construction can be as high as 20%,which means the cost of modified asphalt can be reduced by 20%.The pavement performance of the modified asphalt added with rubber powder is relatively stable,even better than the traditional asphalt pavement,and the road maintenance cost in subsequent application is reduced as well.Therefore,modified asphalt added with rubber powder is more and more widely used in highway construction.The pavement performance of China’s roads has also been improved due to the application of rubber modified asphalt.At the same time,a large amount of domestic waste is used.The tires are also recycled,and the environmental protection effect is remarkable.Therefore,the rubber modified asphalt is a good road construction material with high resource utilization efficiency,excellent road performance and obvious cost advantage.This paper studies the application of rubber modified asphalt and its mixture in asphalt pavement in the seasonal frozen zone.Firstly,a lot of experimental researches were carried out on different waste rubber powder modified asphalts.The fineness of rubber powder and the influence of the matrix asphalt number on the performance of rubber modified asphalt were compared horizontally.The performance index of SBS modified asphalt was compared and evaluated.The performance of rubber modified asphalt was used to analyze the applicability of rubber modified asphalt for use in the seasonal frozen zone.On this basis,considering the climate characteristics of the seasonal frozen zone,the suggestions for the technical indicators of the upper and lower sealing layers of rubber modified asphalt pavement are put forward.The AC-20 type,SMA-13 type and SMA-16 type are used in the gradation of common asphalt mixture in Jilin Province.Each grading is matched with 5 grading curves and verified by 40 mesh 90# rubber modified asphalt.The Marshall test volume index of each curve selects the gradation curve that can meet the specification requirements for further research,and each grading selects another gradation curve to study the performance of four rubber modified asphalts.The properties of various rubber modified asphalt mixtures were verified in three aspects: high temperature stability,low temperature stability and water stability.The performance indexes of rubber modified asphalt mixtures were proposed.In this paper,the experimental research on the main mechanical parameters such as splitting tensile strength and compressive elastic modulus of four rubber modified asphalts is carried out,and reasonable design parameters are proposed.Through the pavement and detection of the test road,it was verified that the rubber modified asphalt concrete pavement has good performance in the seasonal frozen zone,the cost per kilometer between rubber modified asphalt and SBS modified asphalt mixture was compared and analyzed.It was found that rubber modified asphalt has greater economic and social benefits.
