The wet market is a public service facilities in neighborhood,supplying variable cheap fresh food to residents.However,some old wet markets of great location were demolished for new development,making it inconvenient to purchase vegetable.The key to the problem is to find out what the needs are and how to meet the needs of residents.In that case,the research is conducted with the methods of comparison and typical cases,via literature research and field survey,aimed to sort out the history and the existing condition of the vegetable retail system,as well as the policies and regulations,and to analyze the preferences of the residents in different urban units in Haidian District.Suggestions are put forward from the perspective of urban planning at the last.The survey results suggest that the purchase behavior is affected by the demographic characteristics of the residents,the characteristics and the layout of the vegetable retail facilities.First,in terms of demographic characteristics,there are three typical groups purchasing vegetables,namely office workers,full-time wife and retirees,and they are different in shopping habits and related needs.Secondly,there are five kinds of vegetable retail formats in Haidian District,namely wet market,supermarket,vegetable store,vegetable caravan and the hawkers.The wet market takes the advantage of freshness,variety,low price and freedom to select,and is of great significance to conserve the diversity of food culture.However,there remain problems of lacking certain internal functions and unreasonable site planning.Vegetable stores and vegetable caravans are necessary auxiliary facilities in neighborhood,while there are no parking lot and supporting facilities for vegetable caravans.Hawkers always sell fresh vegetable at a low price,but there hasn't been a regular hawker center for them.Thirdly,the four selected research units correspond to different vegetable retail facilities layout modes,which leads to the travel mode choice.Residents in urban areas prefer the nearest facilities;while the residents in urban fringe prefer the wet market a little far away.Besides,residents in unit compound are of high motorization because of the high price in.To conclude,there are two reasonable layout mode for wet market,one is homogeneous high-density layout of community-level facilities,the other is layout of large street-level facilities combined with public transport system.Both layout modes should be included into the urban planning system for implementation.
