The Research Of Public Space Design In University Town With The Concept Of ’Open And Sharing’

It has been nearly two decades since the concept of ‘University Town’ was introduced to China in late 1990 s.During this period,Chenggong University Town began its preparation and construction processes and it has been ten years since it was put into use.As part of China’s development concept,‘open and sharing’ is an opportunity for urban development.However,in the context of internet era characterized by ‘open and sharing’,virtual space dispels the real space,and the university town is stuck because of its simple urban functional form: ‘battle between city space and the internet’,how to improve the role of real space in university town? As a kind of city built environment,public space not only meet the aesthetic needs of the public but also carry public activities,but the public space of university town is generally lack of vitality and the scale is too large: when space lose vitality,how to achieve ‘publicity’? The large-scale construction of university towns in China has led to the development of new urban areas.The history of old universities need to be placed in new urban sites,the traditions and contexts have been neglected: how can the history of old universities be continued in new urban areas?The thesis adopts the methods of keywords crossing and limiting and Combines with litera The thesis adopts the method of keywords crossing and limiting and Combines with literature research,then explicitly defines research issues from three discussions that ‘battle between the city and the internet’ & ‘dilemma for university town’,‘space attribute’ & ‘space dimensionality’,‘new area and old site’ & ’old university and new history’.Moreover,the thesis studies and analyses domestic and foreign Cases.In addition,according to the investigations and analysis of historical development,urban images,and major public space of Chenggong University Town,the thesis proposes conclusions of design research.Combined with the related research above,the thesis holds that the university town should first return to the city itself,realize the publicity of space from multiple dimensions,continue old university history and respect the original context of the new site.And puts forward design concepts,design patterns and design transformation intentions for the specific issues of public space in Chenggong University Town.
