The Service Level Of Public Green Space From The Perspective Of Social Justice In Madrid,Spain

The equality in the access to public green space is becoming essential as the world population living in cities keeps growing.Granting equal access for every citizen regardless its social status,age,gender or origin is the goal to achieve.Public green space within the urban area improves health,supports the practice of sports,avoids depression and has good influence on stress and obesity.We will analyze this in Madrid and study the public green space distribution,the evolution of the city,green space resource,the service index having emphasis on those vulnerable groups with more sensitive situation.The calculation of the service index,the density of the neighborhoods,the fairness and entropy indexes in order to analyze the social justice behavior are the indicators to value the situation.The service index of Madrid presents high values of public green space on average but there are large variances between areas of the municipality;same with the density that concentrates on the center and south east of the city;meanwhile old people and migrants groups present lower indexes that the average.The result with two out of three studied vulnerable groups having a lower result than average indicates a poor result for the susceptible communities under awareness.The density and the service responds to historical development,while there have been recent improvements.The nature also played an important role on Madrid public green space service distribution,as river acts both as natural barrier of the city as well as the creation of service along its course.The crown influenced as well in the service as a the most important public green space resources on the center used to be crown properties and therefore protected from construction,The recommendation is that Madrid should target those areas with low public green space service and high-density ratio for the development of new green space capacities where the effect and improve of the overall service would be more optimum.Which mans that the need to take action seeking for equality and social justice of the service.
