Rural road is an important part of China’s road network,which plays an important role in the economic development of rural areas.With the construction of new socialist countryside and the national poverty alleviation policy implementation,rural road mileage is increasing rapidly,but with the development of the rural road construction,some social problems arise one after another,the more prominent is the traffic safety problems which restrict the rural highway transportation function.Under the rural highway traffic safety environment which is an urgent need to improve the situation,the author of this paper adjusted measures to local conditions to choose material of low cost safety protection facilities and evaluated its safety performance.First,Through the investigation of rural highway road conditions,traffic conditions and traffic accident data in sichuan,chongqing,guizhou,Yunnan,I has analyzed traffic safety situation in our country mountainous rural highway and the characteristics of the dangerous sections,and also I analyzed existing mountainous rural highway safety facilities arrangement and their effect to provide the foundation for safety protection facilities layout data;Second,on the basis of investigation about the present situation of rural highway traffic statistics and the traffic characteristics of rural road,I established safety protection facilities collision condition and evaluation criterion specifically for western mountainous rural highway,using local materials and adjusting measures to local conditions,including thin-walled reinforced concrete guardrails,stone concrete guardrails,steel mesh masonry fence,which suits the mountainous rural highway safety protection facilities;Finally by establishing cars and guardrail finite element model and conducting real vehicle collision experiment,I evaluated the safety performance of three guardrail previously mentioned and concluded that the three new type of safety protective facilities can satisfy rural road safety requirements.
