Investigation On The Narrative Strategy For Protective Urban Design In Traditional Blocks Of Suzhou Ancient City

The ancient cities of China have a historical and cultural accumulation of thousands years,each of which has a rich and varied cultural heritage and historical memory.To some extent,the ancient city is a microcosm of the historical development of a city,and its existence can help people better understand the city and read the city.However,with the reform and opening campaign and rapid urban development,many ancient cities are eager to modernize in order to satisfy people's material life needs,while ignoring the people's pursuit for the spiritual pursue.For the protection and renewal of space in the traditional block of ancient city,designers have been focused on material elements,such as architectural form and architectural style for a long time,the elements of historical events,traditional customs and other non-material factors are rarely considered.Therefore,it is very important to excavate depth local history and culture,comprehensive utilization and integration of material and non-material elements in the protective urban design for traditional blocks of ancient cities,to strengthen people's feelings which about a sense of place and a sense of belonging for the space,during their tour of the ancient city.This paper attempts to introduce the related theories of narration into the urban design of ancient city,which purpose is to provide new ideas and new methods for the urban design of traditional blocks in Suzhou,so as to enhance the spatial characteristics of Suzhou ancient city and carry forward the regional culture.Taking the space in the traditional blocks of Suzhou ancient city as the research object,building the basic framework of the research,and the system has four aspects,which includes the problem of finding,analyzing problems,putting forward countermeasures and demonstration of cases.First of all,collecting and learning related literature with the problem,in order to fully understand the basic contents of the narrative theories and the methods for protective urban design of ancient city.At the same time,with the analogy analysis about the both above-mentioned,this paper explores the adaptability and feasibility of narrative strategy in the design of ancient city conservation city from the perspective of narrative structure and narrative mode.Secondly,researching and analyzing the space situation of traditional streets of Suzhou ancient city in the comprehensive guidance of the two theories,summed up the problems of its development,characteristics and trends and combined with the study of the humane environment in the ancient city,to establish the framework of narrative strategies which is divided into three parts,include making sure narrative elements and themes,making up narrative plot and path,creating narrative scene and an atmosphere,forthe protective urban design of ancient city.Finally,by analyzing a practical case,we want to demonstrate the narrative strategy of urban design which is constructed in this paper,so as to integrate theory with practice,further complement and perfect this strategy system,and to provide some reference for other cities in the application of protective urban design.
