High Speed Train And Regional Tourism Agglomeration

With the rapid construction of high-speed railway network in China,high-speed train has become one of the important ways for people to travel,and the phenomenon of blowout of tourist flows in cities and regions that linked with high-speed rail stations has occurred.The gathering of tourists promotes the formation of accommodation and catering industry clusters.Do high-speed trains really promote regional tourism agglomeration?However,there is no consistent conclusion.This paper first use ArcGIS to map the change of agglomeration among cities,then uses the panel data of the 178 cities of China from 2006 to 2015 to estimate the relationship between the high-speed trains operation and the regional tourism agglomeration through the fixed effect model.The conclusions of this paper are as follows:(1)The operation of high-speed trains has changed the distribution of regional tourism agglomeration,making the tourism agglomeration develop from point distribution to ribbon distribution,while the east and middle clusters are expanding.(2)The operation of high-speed trains has positive influence on regional tourism flows location quotient,and the more the number of the high speed-train stations,the higher the location quotient of the tourism flow is;(3)The opening of high speed train has positive influence on the tourism receipts location quotient,and the more the number of the high-speed trains stations,the higher the location quotient of tourism receipts is.On this basis,the paper offers some suggestions for the official tourism departments and managers of tourism attractions.The innovations of this paper are as follows:(1)Extending the research area from high-speed railway lines,limited cities and small area(like one province)to a large region,using 178 cities in China as study area.(2)Analyzing the influence of high speed train operation on regional tourism agglomeration both by ArcGIS Mapping and econometric models at the same time.(3)Constructing two new location quotient index,the tourism flows location quotient and the tourism receipts location quotient,and adopting them into the high-speed trains research which has enriched dependent variables study.
