Study On The Compactness Of Blocks In Old Town Of Big Cities In China

As the urbanization process in China has gradually entered the later period,the urban land waste,traffic congestion,environmental degradation and other issues are becoming increasingly prominent as the result of rapid development.The old town of big cities in China is the long-term construction focal point in its area,it is also the political,economic and cultural center of the city,its certain importance is of no doubt.Compact city theory,as a kind of city space development strategy,which aimed at intensive utilization of land and optimized configuration of resources by high density and high efficient development mode has a very realistic guiding significance to the old town of big cities in China.This thesis takes the old town of big cities in China and mixed-use business/commercial blocks as the research subject,and draw the conclusion of the evolution trends of the old town of big cities in China and feature of compact of mixed-use business/commercial blocks by quantitative research and contrast analysis of compact degree.This thesis expounds the connotation of compact city firstly,and remark the existing Index system for compactness systematically;Then take the blocks of old town in Nanjing as the research sample,reaching the development characteristic of old town of big cities in China in the recent 10 years by calculating the index in development intensity,space form,city function;Finally,build the index system for compactness aimed at mixed-use business/commercial blocks,with economic,comfortable,efficient as the basic dimensions,calculating the compactness of related blocks in the research sample of the corresponding blocks,reaching the promotion strategy for compactness.Through the calculation and analysis,it turns out that the blocks in old town of big cities in China have the trend of strength enhancement,clear block function,rising proportion of business and commercial,and the compactness of mixed-use business/commercial blocks can be promoted effectively by organizing the block form reasonably,controlling the scale of blocks appropriately,balancing the basic dimensions.The purpose of this thesis is to explore a sustainable development mode by compactness measure,and to provide some suggestions for the city development.
