It is indisputable that water is an important natural element in traditional Chinese dwellings, especially in the southern regions. The relationship between traditional architecture and water reflects an affinity for nature in our traditional culture. These relationships are still reflected in the construction and construction practices of some dwellings.Based on the central region of Zhejiang province as the main geographical scope of the research,we selected the Sishengju(Thousand-column House)that in Sizhai village,Zhuji City.It is a concrete object, and observes the complete relationship between the water in the nature and the construction. The key focus of the research is how these buildings response to water and express the relationship through the specific construction practices,as well as,how to understand the rich diversity in the physical expression. The summery includes observations, and comparative analysis of the practices in dwellings and in contemporary cities. This analysis reveals some of the problems in architectures and cities, and explores reasons behind these problems from the differences between traditional and contemporary perspectives. We also hope to provide some sight and inspiration for today's design work through these observations and research. |
