Research On Characteristics Of Primary Contemporary Design Schools From The Perspective Of Architects' Inheritance

After the introspection and revise to modern architecture during the period of Postmodernism,contemporary architecture returned to the routine of rationalism in the middle of 1980s,and has become more independent to modernism theories.At the same time,with the development of computer technology,the research of new materials,technologies and structures,as well as the attention to historical,cultural and territorial issues,contemporary architecture has shown diversities of patterns.Simultaneously,contemporary design strategies and methods exhibit distinctly territorial characteristics for the unique inheritance and development of modern architecture by contemporary architects from different countries and regions.The most representative countries are Switzerland,Spain,Netherlands and Japan.The design thought of Main architects from those countries based on the same tradition,their works have similar characteristics.They have separately formed the distinct design schools.ETH produces a large number of contemporary architects who have better structural and tectonic consciousness under their strict and solid tradition.They pay attention to the creation of site atmospheres and the delicate detail.Contemporary Spanish architects graduated from ETSAM are inclined to seek the accurate expression of shadows in the building and create the rational and ordered space.Contemporary architects in Netherlands form the design shool whose research strategies are based on graphic analysis and diagrams under the leading and promotion of Rem Koolhass.Japanese architects begin to pursue the lightness and transparency of architecture under leadership of Toyo Ito.Architects from those four countries develop the modernism theory on basis of their high inheritance,and form four unique design schools.They not only lead the development of indigenous architecture,but also determine the direction of contemporary architecture.They are the main force of contemporary architecture.The thesis is going to interpret the development and evolution of contemporary architecture in those four countries by analysis their architects' inheritance.And it is going to summarize the characteristics of their design strategies and methods by comparing architects' works and design thoughts.Most significantly,it is going to find out the fundamental reason of their thriving contemporary architecture.In the end,it proposes to provide some suggestions for the developing Chinese architecture by researching the inheritance of architecture of those four countries.
