Research On Dong Minority's Traditional Villages And Drum-towers In Pingtan River Basin,Tongdao County Of Hunan Province

Locating in the south of Leigong Mountain,Tongdao Dong Autonomous County of Hunan Province,Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Liping County,Congjiang County and Rongjiang County of Guizhou Province,in which the population of Dong people takes more than 70%,are always called the Southern Dong minority's habitation region and they are of the richest original Dong's culture.Tongdao Dong Autonomous County in Hunan Province is the earliest minority autonomous county established in Hunan Province.Running through Tongdao County vertically,covering more than 50 kilometers and passing Shuangjiang,Huangtu,Pingtan and other Dong townships and towns,Pingtan River is an important river constituting “A-hundred-mile Cultural Corridor” of Tongdao County.Among Dong's traditional architectures,drum-tower is the most typical public architecture.As the soul of Dong people and symbol of Dong's spirit,it plays a decisive role in Dong's culture.The research of drum tower is crucial to understand and promote Dong's culture and sustain Dong's style.The methodology of the research studied from the macroscopic to the microcosmic,with the beginning of the basic cultural features of the Pingtan river basin,this dissertation analysis the historical and cultural background,the social organization structure,the economic development status and the minority belief system.Furthermore,based on the abundant field investigation,analyzing from basic status of villages to architectures,included the public architectures,ranging from Drum-tower,Wind-rain bridge,Village-gate and dwellings,in which the plan type,architectural structure,and elevation art are the points.In the final stage,taking the drum-tower into the historical view and then exploring the development and evolution of it.Compared with Dong minority's habilitation region in Jiudong area,Guizhou province,which is also the linear layout,explaining why the Drun-tower produced in the same or different type.The above study fills up the deficiency with research of Drum-tower in Pingtan river basin in the area of Dong traditional architectures,meanwhile,the comparative study,which is between the Dong minority's habilitation region in Pingtan river basin and Jiudong area,Guizhou.,was laying a foundation for further research of Dong minority's traditional architecture.
