Research On Activation Design Of Urban Leftover Space

As places of human inhabitation,cities provide people with comfortable living environment and good material conditions of living as well as convenient means of transportation.However,apart from bringing various nice things,cities also expose a lot of problems.With continuous acceleration of urbanization in our country,a lot ofleftover space appears,while they are neglected.Due to passive and simple functions,low utilization efficiency and poor environmental quality,the space becomes an urban vacuum zone in which environmental pollution and criminals can be easily generated.Based on re-examining the urban space,the paper puts forward the concept of “leftover space” aiming at such type of space;tries to rethink status and utilization of current urban space from a brand-new perspective;and proposes a series of design strategies to apply and activate this ki nd of space.By describing and analyzing basic concepts,formation mechanism,characteristics,space classification manners and distribution rules of leftover space,the paper determines several standards to define the leftover space.On this basis,the paper starts detailed and comprehensive research with urban leftover space in road space and adjacent building space as the entry point.Secondly,the author conducts on-site investigation of status quo of these two types of leftover space through survey,and then analyzes and summarizes problems existing in space and negative influences brought by them to cities.Thirdly,the author analyzes a lot of excellent cases both at home and abroad;and summarizes successful design methods and experience of them in order to provide factual basis for space activation design strategies.At last,according to systematic analysis and research at the early stage,the paper proposes principles and strategies for urban leftover space activation design from two levels including external integration and internal space creation;and puts forward some specific suggestions for humanized space utilization according to the two different types of urban leftover space.In conclusion,the author thinks that activation design of urban l eftover space is one of the problems urgently needing to be explored and solved during urban development and construction in the future.It is of major significance to adjustment of urban space structure and integration & utilization of space resources,ma kes for improving people's living mode and provides citizens with good space for social communication.The author hopes to give rise to people's attention to urban defective space through this research,and provide design reference and basis for utilizatio n of urban leftover space in the future.
